Kaiser, Mo. -

Monday marked senior night for the School of the Osage softball team, and while it was a day of celebration, the Lady Indians lost 6-0 to Warsaw.
After a scoreless first inning, Warsaw hit back-to-back doubles and plated two runs in the second inning. It added three more in the third to pad its lead to 5-0. It added a final run in the seventh inning.
“We knew they were strong. It wasn’t our defense. They just got timely hits,” said head coach Bill Nowicki.
Osage managed only two hits in the game. Haleigh Lillard and Katie Falherty each had one double.
Nowicki felt the team did not play as badly as the score would seem, especially after a long road trip.
“We have been on an endless road. (We’ve had) one home game in the last three weeks,” Nowicki said. “I didn’t think we played bad at all, (I’m) a little disappointed in the strikeouts.”
Despite the loss the Lady Indians recorded their first winning regular season in school history with an 11-10 record after a 3-18 record last season.
Nowicki said the team had set the goal for the season to finish at or above .500.
“We were hoping to be .500 and were able to achieve that, but the work’s not done,” Nowicki said. “We have to win Wednesday (in districts against Eldon). That would certainly put the stamp on the season.”
Senior Alex McDonald said it was amazing to reach the goal of at least a .500 record. She said she had mixed emotions after her final home game.
Flaherty said it was great to be graduating on a high note, but she also sees a great future for the Lady Indians.
“I think Osage softball is now in running gear, they’re going to rock it,” Flaherty said.
