WEST PLAINS - Post 624  competed in the West Plains Tournament over the weekend. The team played three games over the weekend, but could not come away with a victory.
In game one of the tournament, Post 624 opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The lead was short-lived as the Southwest Missouri Knights tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, and scored three runs in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead.
The Knights tacked on a run in the sixth inning to pad their lead to 5-1.
Post 624 scored four runs in the top half of the seventh to tie the game, but were unable to hold the Knights, who scored one run in the bottom half of the seventh to win the game 6-5.
Spencer Thompson pitched five innings, and allowed one earned run. Short stop Alex Nicholson had two RBIs to lead the team in offense.
This was the second time in a week that Post 624 lost in the bottom of the last inning, after allowing the Rolla Renegades to score two runs in bottom of the seventh on July 8 to win.
In its second Saturday game, Post 624 played Rolla again. The Renegades would not need a late-inning comeback as it jumped out to an 9-0 lead after three innings. After a scoreless fourth inning, Post 624 got on the board with a four-run fifth inning. Despite adding a fifth run in the sixth inning, it was not enough to complete the comeback as Rolla won 10-5.
Cody Moore started the game for Post 624, working two innings, and giving up six runs and sriking out two batters. Moore also added an RBI at the plate, while right fielder Dylan Snow added two.
In the third and final game of the tournament, Post 624 fell to Reed Springs  9-4. Tyler Coleman started the game for Post 624, and worked 4.2 innings and gave up four earned runs and struck out four batters. Derek Van Kluyve pitched the final inning, and gave up no earned runs.
