The Volley Lakers have won 10 straight matches after they defeated Joplin 25-12, 25-12 Thursday.
This victory came on the heels of Camdenton’s 25-12, 25-13 victory over Hickman on Tuesday. Sierra Comer said the team’s confidence is high now, and the large-margin victories have helped the team gain experience.
“We get a chance to work on more difficult things that we can’t work on in tight games,” Comer said.
The Volley Lakers jumped on Joplin early as they took an 11-2 lead in game one. Brittney Sedillo led the way with 10 straight service points.
Camdenton did not let up in the second game as it jumped out to a 13-5 lead and carried it to a 25-12 win.
“We played well, played with a lot of confidence,” said head coach Ann Gulshen. “It was nice to see the kids go out there having fun. We’re scrappy, and we keep the ball alive.”
Camdenton will now take its win streak into the Lebanon tournament this weekend. Gulshen said there is not a weak opponent in the 10-team field.
“I just want us to go out and give our best effort. The kids we’ll go up against are taller and more experienced. (We need to) play every point,” Gulshen said.
With the win, the team is now 18-5, and loaded with young talent. While she said the team is primarily built with sophomores, the seniors have been great leaders on the court.
“We have a very young team, a lot of the times we have four sohpomores on the court (and) a few seniors that bring leadersip. The kids don’t let the age be a factor,” Gulshen said.
