Camdenton, Mo. -

The Lakers were able to slow down a powerful Parkview running game and score in a variety of ways, coming away with a 40-21 win in Springfield.
After Parkview’s opening drive netted them only ten yards, the Lakers offense made a statement on their first play from scrimmage.
A few key blocks and a quick cutback gave running back Josh Glover nothing but daylight to roll for a 52-yard touchdown.
The Lakers capitalized quickly on their next possession, as well. This time the big play came from slot back Blaine Back who took the ball 36 yards off the left side for another Laker touchdown.
Camdenton made it three-for-three on their next possession, as quarterback Kyle Simpson hit Cayden Shockley for a 14-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 21-0.
The Vikings were finally able to move the ball on the following possession, going 78 yards and chewing up 9 minutes and 38 seconds of the clock. Running back Blake Williams capped the drive with an 8-yard run up the middle for a touchdown.
Camdenton answered back immediately when Shockley scooped up a short kickoff and raced 73 yards to the end zone.
On the next possession, Parkview attempted their first pass of the game, and Shockley came up with the interception, capping an eventful second quarter for the sophomore that saw him score two touchdowns and get a pick.
After a Camdenton fumble early in the second half gave Parkview the ball at the Laker 15-yard line, the Lakers defense stepped up and kept the Vikings out of the end zone.
On a fourth and three at the Camdenton 8-yard line, Shockley made the big play yet again, tackling the Viking running back short of a first down.
After taking over on downs, the Lakers got on the board again when Simpson hit Jacob Dines for an 18-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone, stretching the lead to 34-7.
Early in the fourth quarter, Parkview took advantage of a Laker fumble with their second touchdown drive of the game.
Running back Michael McCrimmons ran 40 yards for the touchdown on a play Camdenton coaches thought should have come back for holding.
The Lakers answered with a touchdown of their own – a 15 yard pass from Simpson to Bach.
Parkview scored the final touchdown of the game on their next possession when Williams broke through the line for a 1-yard touchdown, making the final score 40-21.
Camdenton head coach Bob Shore said Parkview’s power running attack is difficult to defend.
Parkview rushed for 260 yards on Friday night.
“I think we did a better job than anybody I’ve seen,” Shore said. “They’ve been averaging about 400 yards on the ground.”

How the game was won
Camdenton    14 – 14 – 6 – 6- 40
Parkview    0 – 7 – 0 – 14- 21

Key play:
Cayden Shockley’s tackle on fourth down to kill a Parkview drive inside the Laker 10-yard line.

Notable
Shockley’s big hit on fourth down gave Camdenton the ball back after it had fumbled on the previous possession. The stop allowed the Lakers to keep their 28-7 lead.

Quotable: “[Shockley] is a real versatile athlete and an intense player,” head coach Bob Shore said. “He’s done it every game.”
