- The Volley Lakers improved their record to 17-5 Tuesday when they defeated Hickman 25-12, 25-13.
Volley Laker Haley Baker said one of the keys to the team’s success is they’re having fun.
“It was a pretty good win, but I think we’ve played better,” Baker said. “We were just having fun tonight.”
Baker led the team with 7 kills and 12 digs, while Jessica Smith had 6 kills and 6 blocks.
Head coach Ann Gulshen said Smith and Nikki Branting, who also had 10 digs, played well.
In the first game, Camdenton jumped out to an early lead and built it to 16-7 before finishing off Hickman 25-12.
In the second game, Shelby Metzger got the Lady Lakers off to a fast start with five straight points.
Camdenton never trailed in the second game and won the game 25-13.
“For us it’s not about one player, it’s about all of us,” Gulshen said. “We’re having success this year because we’re working as a team.”
Gulshen said the team is gaining success by building off of victories in the Camdenton VolleyFest, and also against Hillcrest and Jefferson City last week. She said with each victory the team gains more confidence.
“We have a really young team. We started playing well with the Branson tournament, With each win our confidence is growing,” Gulshen said.
Baker agreed that the team’s belief in itself is growing with each win.
“We were kind of afraid to lose before, now we’re not. We’re gaining confidence,” Baker said.
