Post 624 unable to maintain momentum

JEFFERSON CITY - In it’s previous two games, Post 624 scored a combined 25 runs in a Tuesday doubleheader against Fulton. On Thursday the team took to the field against Jefferson City, however the offensive production was not the same.
Post 624 scored a combined three runs in its doubleheader against Jefferson City, including a 10-0 shutout in game one.

Fun in the Sun, first youth baseball tournament hosted by Camdenton

Up until last weekend, Camdenton had never held an open youth baseball tournament. That changed when youth baseball coach Travis Randall and his 9-and-under Laker travel squad hosted the Fun in the Sun Tournament.
Randall started the Lakers this season and says the process of building a team as well as hosting the tournament has been gratifying.
“My son played for the Lebanon Yellowjackets (last year) and I decided I wanted to bring (travel baseball) here,” Randall said. “It’s been an amazing process, and our (teams) families have become a family.”

Schriewer is new Missouri Women’s Amateur champion

It was an exciting finish to the Missouri Women’s Amateur July 17 at Osage National, with Chelsea Schriewer of St. Charles coming from behind to beat former 6-time champ Ellen Port.
Held at the Arnold Palmer signature course over a 3-day period on the Links and River courses, Port entered the final day of the 70th Amateur with a 5-stroke lead. Schriewer, the runner-up last year, shot 2-under-par on the final round, and caught up with Port after the turn. Schriewer passed her during the home stretch along the Osage River. It was the only sub-par round shot during the week.

Dogwood Hills maintains first place

OSAGE BEACH - Men's intercity started its point-and-a-half phase of the season with its stop at Tan-Tar-A July 14. Young guns mixed it up with some of the best golfers from the Lake.
The course was The Oaks and conditions were excellent.
First place Dogwood Hills secured its lead with a 25 1/2-point sweep over last place Old Kinderhook. The DH golfers brought a 5-point lead into the contest.

Post 624 rides offense

The Zach Wheat American Legion Post 624 played two tight games with Fulton Post 210 on Tuesday night. The two teams split the doubleheader with Post 210 taking game one and 624 winning the second game.

Troy Glaus homered twice and Rick Ankiel and Joe Mather added solo shots of their own to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Padres 4-3 Thursday night.

Tournament setup done behind the scenes

OSAGE BEACH - Entrants in the Missouri Woman’s Golf Association’s Amateur Championship teed off in the opening round at Osage National Golf Club Tuesday afternoon. While the players have put in practice time on the course and at the driving range, a group of women led by Kathy Wise sat behind the scenes preparing for the tournament.
Wise, the tournament chair for the event, has spent the past nine months along with her hand-picked committee, working through every detail to make the tournament a success.
“This takes a lot of people to put a tournament on,” Wise said. “There’s more people working than playing (in the event.)”

The action track of the Ozarks provided plenty of excitement and action as the Lebanon Midway Speedway hosted the second annual Larry Phillips Birthday Bash. A member of Team Phillips, Jeremy Payne, came out the big winner in the DLRA/MARS LateModel challenge with more than 135 race teams in the pits.

Chip-off decides champion in junior golf event

Competion was tight in the boys 16-18 division at the Lake of the Ozarks Junior Golf Associations tournament Monday at Lake Valley Country Club. Four golfers needed two seperate chip-offs to determine the top four spots.

J.D. Nash of Newberg and Clayton Mellville of Camdenton each shot 73s while Matt Lenz of Green Ridge and Linn Creeks Anthony Rutledge tied for third with matching 77s.
Nash and Rutledge won their respective chip-offs. Nash placed first with Mellville, Rutledge and Lenz finishing the top four.

Local pitchers win big at Summer Splash

Camdenton's Tamra Jenkins won the championship division of the Lake of the Ozark Horseshoe Clubs Summer Splash Tournament. This was the clubs second outdoor tournament of the summer and it was held at the 15 court facility at Hillbilly Fairgrounds

Women's championship comes to the Lake of the Ozarks

OSAGE BEACH - Osage National Golf Course is set to host the Missouri Woman’s Golf Association’s Amateur Championship this week.
The tournament will run from Tuesday to Thursday and will feature some of the best amateur golfers in the state. According to a MWGA press release, there will be 96 golfers teeing off; 48 will compete in the championship division while 48 will participate in the open division.
