We’re disturbed at the hostility boiling over in the Northwest Fire Protection District.
We were equally disturbed and disappointed by new board member’ Wendell Parrish’s harsh, poignant appraisal of the situation during last week’s meeting: “The way these meetings are conducted, it’s such a — it seems like it’s just a joke. I’ve never seen a business meeting run like this in my life. You can’t get things done this way.”
We’re disturbed by those words, disappointed he felt them necessary and even more disappointed and discouraged they apparently went unheeded, although we certainly applaud Parrish for saying what needed to be said.
Political entities such as a fire district board are no place for political vendettas. The district board hired a chief - albeit on an interim basis - to do a job.
We think the board should let him do that job, and support him.
A board is a collection of varying interests with one common goal. Keep the personal sniping and the snits off the political agenda and get back to the business at hand - serving the taxpayers who support the fire district and spending that money in a prudent manner to ensure the safety of property owners and visitors.
