Old dock foam has been an eyesore and a problem on Lake of the Ozarks for many years.
As the old foam deteriorates over time, it breaks apart and floats off downstream, where it becomes somebody else’s problem – a problem to the people who have to see it and a problem to the homeowner who has to haul it off the lakefront and then dispose of it.
AmerenUE will sponsor a free special collection for Lake of the Ozarks residents who want to dispose of small amounts of discarded foam flotation material.
The collection will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Materials Processing Center in Kaiser. Materials Processing Center is in the former Lake Steel building, located on Route 42 south of Highway 54 in Osage Beach.
The free collection is intended to give shoreline residents a chance to dispose of small amounts of foam flotation material, up to four cubic yards or approximately one pickup truck load, that has washed up on their property, according to Ameren UE.
We encourage residents to take advantage of the opportunity. Not only does this get the old foam off the lake, it gets recycled and reused.
That’s a win-win situation in our book.
