I am responding to the letter Mr. Fitts wrote regarding the burden placed on Missouri taxpayers when they receive their personal property tax bills in November. I have the perfect solution for this problem. It is called personal responsibility.
The personal property taxes of most taxpayers who live on a limited income do not differ that much from one year to the next.

The election is over and it’s time to pursue the promises made.
Among the most prominent on both sides of the political aisle, at all levels, was support for energy independence.
It will be difficult to keep our eyes on the ball as crude oil and gasoline prices drop by 50 percent from their recent highs.

Back in the mid-to-late 90s, I lived in the lake area.
I watched the insidious, personal governmental infighting going on.

Chasing grasshoppers in the grass,
Just to take a ride on a bass.
Fiddlin’ and singin’ just for our ears.

Congratulations to Mr. Bill Pragman on his letter to the editor in  the Nov. 13 issue of the Lake Sun.
Mr. Pragman, you are 100 percent  correct in your statement that corporations are tax collectors, not  tax payers.

Recent new reports state that our government and the recipients of the $880 billion bailout have made statements that there will be no accounting for how the $880 billion dollars is spent, “the taxpayers will just have to trust that the money is spent wisely”.

Alderman Van Donsel is right, the city of Lake Ozarks is going back to a Banana Republic.
He also has to remember the last time this happened, Paul Sale and himself were in the back of the meeting room having a good laugh about it. Not so funny now is it?

It saddens and angers me that not all pastors stand united in the efforts of Pro-Life to stop abortion.
There are some in this God-ordained movement that are literally working themselves into the grave while other Christians could care less or give only verbal support that often is just as good as nothing.

Mr. Mowinski:
I remember years back when your campaign signs first appeared all around the county.
I recall the sheer number of signs, complaints about the places where some were posted, and the length of time they remained after the election was over.

You were never far from my mind.
I resisted your call.
I never thought I’d fall!
I was always so blind!

Missourians will soon be receiving the bill for their personal property taxes. 
We will receive the bill in November with a due date of Jan. 1, two months and a late payment will entail a penalty.

With all due respect, I would like to remind everyone that the Democrats have controlled the House of Representatives for the last two years under the guidance, I can’t say leadership, of Nancy Pelosi and have accomplished nothing, nada, zip, zero. 
Now the Democrats have control of both houses of Congress and the administrative branch. 
Beware, they will have no one to blame this time but themselves.

The huge total of those who chose to vote in these United States again showed the entire world that we all live in the land of equal opportunity.
Yet, had Camden County been the benchmark for this election, the day after would have reflected our well informed opinion.

In a letter sent  to U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson, United Steelworkers President Leo W. Gerard raised questions about the prudence of Treasury investments of $125 billion of taxpayers’ money into nine financial institutions, including the firm which Paulson recently headed, Goldman Sachs.

I found it amusing and ironic that on Oct. 22, the Lake Sun could publish a headline on the Reader Advisory Board as well as the opinion of Ms. Debbie McCain of Linn Creek. 
The RAB sounds like a great idea, but let me precede their suggestions by offering one first. 
I believe it is a gift that the opinion pages of newspapers around the country allow citizens of the community to express their thoughts and ideas on the issues concerning them.
