Dick Reid, 87, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Sunrise Beach, Mo., passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Cox Walnut Lawn in Springfield. 
He was born Nov. 29, 1920, in his parents’ home in Kansas City, Mo.
Dick was a veteran of World War II, serving on the submarine U.S.S Flounder. Dick retired as a captain from the Kansas City Police Department. 
After his retirement, Dick worked for TWA where he was a part of the management team. During this time he and Bernadine lived in England. 
After retirement from TWA, Dick and Bernadine moved to Lake of the Ozarks, where they lived for 25 years before moving to Springfield. Dick had a talent for art and enjoyed traveling.
Through the years, he has been a member of many organizations including Ozark Lakers, Hurricane Deck Lions, TWA Lakers, Submarine Veterans of World War II (serving as state commander), charter member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion and life member of the V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years Bernadine (Lehman) Reid of the home; one daughter, Judy Burr and son-in-law, Jeff Burr, of Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, Dick M. Reid, and daughter-in-law Charlotte, of Springfield; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Reid Davis and wife Cheryl, children Mason and Katheryn of Chandler, Ariz., Angila Mrazek and husband Rob, children Robert and Amanda of Chicago, Ill., Stacy Streen and husband David, and Skyler Williams of Bay, Wis., and Michael Reid and Mathew Reid, of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry C. Reid, Esther L. (Benson) Reid and his sister Lois (Reid) Rimel.
There are no services planned at this time. Memorial donations are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Home 1600 South Hickory Mt. Vernon, Mo. 65712 % Director of Volunteers. Condolences may be sent online to www.kidwellgarber.com.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.
