Camdenton, Mo. -

Police are making two referrals to juvenile authorities following an altercation at the Camdenton School District following the homecoming football game.
According to the Camdenton Police Department, one teenager could face assault charges for hitting another teen in the face and the victim may be charged with peace disturbance.
The altercation occurred Oct. 3. Officers arrived at the Camdenton school campus just after 9:30 p.m The victim had bruises and lacerations to the face, according to a press release issued by the department.
Officers spent several days collecting witness statements and investigating what happened. Authorities say during the football game, the two had argued back and forth, and taunted each other, which led to the confrontation shortly after the football game had ended Friday night.
School superintendent Dr. Maurice Overlander, said the school had completed an investigation but could not comment on what type of disciplinary action had been taken.
“We have taken the appropriate disciplinary action with both parties,” he said. “When it happens on school property and particularly if they are students, the school takes action independent than what law enforcement would.”
The school policy prevents it from releasing certain types of information including names and punishment against students.
Although he would not confirm if the students were members of the football team, Overlander said the school follows a policy set by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.
“(They) have rules all members must abide by. One is that (athletes) demonstrate that they are good citizens.
The school district’s responsibility is to interpret and administer those rules,” he said.
