City officials are moving forward with plans to build a community recreational facility.
For months, the city has been asking for public input and is now ready to sit down and develop a course of action. The committee has scheduled a planning meeting next week to start coming up with a formal plan.
According to Camdenton city administrator Steven Craig, the committee is made up of officials and residents who will generate ideas about what type of facility to build for the community. The committee last met about a year ago, but is ready to start the project.
The recreation/civic center could consist of a number of amenities including an indoor gym and track, exercise area, meeting rooms, kitchen and restrooms. Officials have discussed hiring a recreational director to generate programs for all ages and to run the facility.
So far, the city has set aside $200,000 to help pay costs associated with the project.
Once the city pool is paid off in 2009, the revenue earmarked for the pool can be used for the facility. A half-cent special revenue sales tax pays for the yearly pool payments.
The city is still seeking comments from residents.
Anyone with ideas should contact the Camdenton City Hall at 346-3600.
The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at city hall.
What’s on the agenda:
• Creation of a mission statement.
• Scope of facility including type of construction.
• Potential locations.
• Request for proposals from architectural firm.
• Timeline and schedules.
