Morgan County, Mo. -

A 44-year-old Versailles man originally arrested on four counts of child molestation has had attempted murder added to the list of charges.
Gilbert Leon Silvey Jr. was charged with attempted murder in the first degree after Morgan County deputies discovered Silvey was making arrangements to hire someone to kill the alleged victim and victim’s family.
According to court documents, in November 2007, Silvey was charged with three counts of child molestation in Morgan County. His bond was set at $20,000 cash only.
In Feb. 2008, Judge Kevin Schehr reduced the bond to $5,000, 10 percent cash or surety though the prosecuting attorney filed objections.
Before the bond was reduced, Silvey appeared with a public defender; afterward, a private attorney represented him.
On Feb. 15, with the bond reduced, Silvey posted bond.
In April, the case was bound over to Morgan County Circuit Court and the judge revoked bond.
However, Silvey was already jailed in Cooper County after one more charge of child molestation was filed against him there.
Silvey applied for a public defender and a reduction to his $50,000 cash or surety bond but was denied because he had a private attorney in another case.
The charge against him in Cooper County was also bound over to circuit court.
Silvey’s jury trial for the three Morgan County charges was scheduled to begin Tuesday in front of Judge Donald Lloyd Barnes.
According to a news release issued by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department, it was during the course of the investigation into the molestation charges that deputies discovered Silvey was attempting to make arrangements to hire someone to kill the alleged victim and victim’s family.
Silvey is being held on an additional $50,000 cash only bond.
