Oil painters are invited to the Great Paint Out from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6 at Ha Ha Tonka State Park.
Sponsored by the Oil Painters of America, this free event will invite both members and non-members to capture the high cliffs, lake, trees, wildlife, spring, rock formations, ruins of Ha Ha Tonka Castle and other landscapes on canvas.
Organizers ask painters to bring bottled water as there are fountains but not many, as well as bug spray and food, if needed.
There will be a chalk board available for messages such as location of painters within the park to make it easier for late arrivals. Park maps will also be available at this location.
Painters are invited to meet back at the visitor’s center at 5 p.m. for a show and tell period.
There is no sign up for this event, but the Oil Painters of America would like an e-mail from participants who plan to attend if possible. However, painters are welcome to come on the day of the Great Paint Out regardless of prior notice.
Organizers want the event to be informal with a goal of “good art, good company and a fun day” in mind.
There also no park fees and all participants are expected to follow park rules.
