Everyone here in the Ozarks remembers the quaint (and smelly) outhouses at their parents or grandparents home or farm. Since most of us have indoor plumbing now, they are good for one thing - put wheels on them and race them.
What has become a tradition at a few select locations around the country, outhouse races are pure entertainment and fun for everyone of all ages.
The Great Ozark Outhouse Race will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27 in conjunction with the Third Annual Oma and Noma Days on “Bagnell Dam Strip.”
Family, friends and co-workers can sponsor a team to race their outhouse down the Strip to the finish line. Teams are encouraged to put their business name or creative, original logo on thier outhouse.
Teams must consist of five or six people. They can be family, friends, schoolmates, co-workers or anyone. Each team must also have a “theme” and must be dressed accordingly to the team’s theme.
Trophies will be given to the top three winners, and awards will be given to all participants.
There are building guidelines and rules that must be met in order to qualify for the race. To receive a copy of the official build guidelines, race rules and time schedule call Jeff VanDonsel at 573-365-2460 or Mike Page at 573-365-7132.
The deadline to enter the Great Ozark Outhouse Race is Sept. 15, so make sure to sign up today.
